My name is Casey Cao, and I am currently in my fourth year at California State University Los Angeles, pursuing my bachelor’s degree in public health. Throughout my academic journey, I have learned that public health involves more than just the prevention of diseases but rather a whole realm of aspects. Immersing myself in my degree has allowed me to identify my passion for public health, and it truly resonates with how public health can influence people and their communities.
Interning at MiOra has been an eye-opening opportunity, especially with the focus on public health research. After taking major courses, I have developed an interest in the research field, and MiOra has allowed me to obtain experience in conducting research in the real world. Applying the skills and ideas I have learned and putting them to use at MiOra has allowed me to grow as an individual, increase my confidence, and expand my insights. Through MiOra, I discovered how research plays a crucial role in the health and wellness of our communities.
One of MiOra’s recent priorities has been to improve the diversity in clinical trials by increasing knowledge and awareness of clinical trials. With my involvement in MiOra’s Closing the Disparities in Cancer Program, I realized the importance of diversity in clinical trials and the direct impact of the outcome as more valuable and accurate findings are measured by including all demographics.
