How do I know if I need cancer screening?

If you have a parent, grandparent or sibling with cancer, if there are several people with cancer in your family ask your doctor about genetic testing, ask to see a geneticist.

If you have one or more of these changes below and they are persistent (not getting better):

  2. A sore throat that won’t heal (change in voice)
  3. Unusual bleeding, bruising or discharge (urine, gums)
  4. A lump or thickening in the breast or other body part (neck)
  5. Persistent indigestion or trouble swallowing
  6. Any change in a mole or wart
  7. Nagging cough or hoarseness, blood in sputum
  8. Feeling tired, out of breath more often

What is the Improving Cancer Outcomes Program?

Since its founding in 2016, MiOra has been a staunch advocate for cancer patients, emphasizing the importance of early screening and diagnosis to improve outcomes. Delayed diagnoses can lead to worse outcomes, making timely intervention critical. Strong community support is also vital in improving patient outcomes.

Participation in clinical trials is essential to assess the safety and efficacy of new medications across diverse racial and ethnic groups. Unfortunately, minorities frequently face barriers that restrict their access to these trials.

MiOra provides a variety of support services, including in-person and tele-help, for cancer patients and their families. Our HIPAA-certified interns are now equipped with an AI tool to help locate nearby clinical trials for individuals with cancer. If you require our support or are interested in collaborating on this significant project, please feel free to reach out to us.

Why Cancer?

Cancer remains the leading cause of death worldwide, with an increasing number of cases each year. This rise is particularly concerning given the growing elderly population, making cancer education and treatment more critical than ever. Approximately one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. Many cancers remain undiagnosed and progress because their symptoms are often mistaken for other conditions.

MiOra has developed a support program specifically for cancer patients, their families, and primary care providers. This program is bolstered by a team of trained health educators who enhance communication between patients and healthcare providers, aiming to improve patient satisfaction, quality of life, and survival rates. Additionally, MiOra’s health educators now utilize an AI tool to help locate nearby clinical trials for patients, providing more targeted and effective support.

Why Cancer Clinical Trials?

Cancer clinical trials are the only process to develop new treatments; however less than 5% of cancer patients enroll in clinical trials. By participating in a clinical trial, you may be given first-hand access to new cutting-edge treatments that are not otherwise available.

Participation in clinical trials also provides you with the opportunity to assist in the improvement of cancer treatment
