Do you get migraines? Miss school or work because nothing works? American Headache Association has new prevention recommendations.

American Headache Society (AHS) is calling for the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-targeting therapies to be tried as the first line of prevention of migraines. Both clinical trial and real-world experience show that CGRP inhibitors are safe and effective for migraine prevention. There is experience with CGRP inhibitors since 2018. These drugs appear to be safe. AHS states that safety signals are constipation and hypertension (reported mainly with erenumab), and Raynaud phenomenon, but they are uncommon, rarely lead to discontinuation of therapy.

Need Migraine Help?

Migraines are a common neurological condition, and new non-addictive, non-opioid treatments are available. However, many people still struggle to get proper care.

Migraine diagnosis is often missed in Black and Hispanic communities, and they are less likely to receive brain imaging and treatment.

Common migraine triggers include stress, hormonal changes, travel (changes in sleep, weather, pressure), alcohol, dehydration, excessive coffee or tea, and screen time.

Most insurance plans cover migraine medications. Visit the MiOra website for more information.
