My name is Yvonne Villalobos-Cruz, I am a recent Public Health graduate from California State University Los Angeles. I am an aspiring health equity activist dedicated to promoting healthcare access for all and policy advocacy by recognizing the vital role they play in ensuring equitable and comprehensive healthcare for all individuals and communities.

An Experiential Internship at MiOra

Throughout my tenure at MiOra, I gained a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding public health research and the various factors that contribute to health disparities, specifically in women’s cancer clinical trials in the pharmaceutical industry. Through hands-on experience, working closely with my team members, I actively participated in various stages, including conducting literature reviews, creating consent forms, designing survey tools, and preparing an IRB application.

I have developed a profound appreciation for data analysis and research in shaping evidence-based public health interventions. These immersive opportunities have not only enhanced my technical skills but have also enriched my understanding of the complexities and inherent challenges within the field.

My future goals include amplifying the voices of marginalized undocumented communities, increasing awareness about health disparities, and advocating for legislative measures that prioritize the unique needs of vulnerable populations.
