Welcome to MiOra’s Policy Change Program, where we are committed to addressing policies that impact community health. Our program is supported by a team of experts who equip our students with the skills and knowledge needed to lead and drive policy changes.
Together, we work towards achieving sustainable, significant improvements for healthier and more vibrant communities.

Step 1

We hosted a session with Brian Gavidia, District Director for Congressman Tony Cardenas (CA-29). Brian talked to 35 MiOra Health Ambassadors about his work, policy, and his own career pathway.

MiOra In Action

MiOra supported Senate Bill 496 (Limón) to increase biomarker testing to ensure that patients receive the right treatment at the right time
MiOra supported Assembly Bill 2613 (ZBur) to establish a Rare Disease Advisory Council (RDAC) within the state of California which would help to give a voice to the estimated 1-in-10 individuals living with a rare disease in California in February of 2024.

MiOra opposed SB 1263. SB 1263 was written to dismantle SB 488. Senate Bill 488 amended appropriate Education Code sections to require the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to complete a series of actions related to literacy instruction. AB 2222 was a comprehensive literacy policy in line with the evidence-based science of how to teach reading.
MiOra supported AB 632, authored by Assemblymember Mike Gipson. AB 632 will allow more men to receive prostate cancer screenings without the worry of excessive healthcare expenses due to out-of-pocket expenses, such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
MiOra supports the “Protecting Seniors Through Immunization Act of 2021” (S.912). The bill aims to improve vaccine access for seniors by eliminating cost-sharing requirements, such as deductibles and co-pays, for vaccines recommended by CDC under Medicare Part D.
