Purpose and Activities
The foundation seeks to enhance the quality of life in the North Coast by directing philanthropic efforts towards community needs. The foundation builds philanthropy in North Coast communities by offering donors a wide variety of options for giving—establishing permanent endowments, donating to existing causes, establishing their own personal fund or creating new funds to meet community needs.
The grantmaker has identified the following area(s) of interest:
Open to graduating seniors from Carlsbad, Oceanside and San Diego high schools only. Scholarship awards typically range from $500 to $2,000. Each scholarship has its own unique set of eligibility requirements, including awards for students pursuing a degree in specific subject areas, such as medicine, education, and public administration. Foundation works in partnership with three nonprofit organizations to provide art and business education for students in grades 2 through 6. Schools in the Del Mar, Solana Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside school districts are eligible to apply. Visit foundation website for more information.
Grants to Individuals Program
Scholarships for higher education to graduating seniors from the Carlsbad, Oceanside and San Diego high schools. Grants also available to public school teachers in the north coastal San Diego County area, CA.
Hand to Hand
The foundation supports: 1) education and job training; 2) women re-entering the work force; 3) mentoring programs for girls; and 4) micro-finance programs (in San Diego County only). Grants range from $3,000 to $10,000.
Mental Health Fund Grant Program
Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that provide mental health prevention and intervention programs and services for youth. Programs and services must serve the North Coastal communities of Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad or Oceanside.
Solana Beach Fund
Grant funds may be requested for new activities, to expand current programs, to make them more effective or to improve organizational efficiency in delivering services. Programs must be in Solana Beach. Grants will not be considered for fundraising events, endowment campaigns, travel, religious or political advocacy, or for programs and services outside of Solana Beach. Preference will be given to organizations with budgets less than $2 million. The grant range is $2,000-$5,000.
Suzuki Music Scholarship
Scholarships are available from the Barbara Schneiderman Fund for Piano Enrichment for San Diego County students to attend a Suzuki camp or convention. Awards are open to students studying Suzuki music (piano only). E-mail or telephone the foundation for additional application information.
