1.2. Notice Concerning Children.
PLEASE NOTE: We are a general audience site, and do not direct any of our content specifically at children under 13 years of age. We understand and are committed to respecting the sensitive nature of children’s privacy online. If we learn or have reason to suspect that a Site user is under age 13, we will promptly delete any personal information in that user’s account.
2. INFORMATION COLLECTION PRACTICES.
2.1. What Basic Information Does MiOra Collect?
In operating the Site, MiOra requires you to provide us certain information that personally identifies you (“Personal Information”). Personal Information includes the following categories of information:
- Contact Data (such as your name, mailing address, and e-mail address);
- Financial Data (such as your account or credit card number);
- Demographic Data (such as your zip code, age, and income), and
- Educational Data (such as grades and other information in the student’s educational record().
If you communicate with us by e-mail, post messages to any of our chat groups, bulletin boards, or forums, or otherwise complete online forms, surveys, or contest entries, any information provided in such communication may be collected as Personal Information.
Third Party Sources. In addition, we may also obtain information, including Personal Information, from third party sources, including through social networking sites or other third parties that incorporate the Site into their own websites or mobile applications. For example, if you choose to create or log into your account using your credentials from a social networking site, then we will have access to certain information from such social networking site, which may include your name, your photo or your account information, in accordance with the authorization procedures determined by such social networking site. If we directly combine information from third parties with Personal Information that we have collected, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information and handle it in accordance with this Policy.
You are under no obligation to provide, and can decline to provide, any requested information at any time. However if you decline to provide Personal Information that is reasonably necessary to participate in certain activities, you may not be able to utilize certain activities on the Site.
2.1. What Additional Information Does MiOra Collect?
(a) Automatic Collection. Our servers automatically track and collect the following categories of information when you visit our Site: (i) IP addresses; (ii) domain servers; (iii) types of computers accessing the Site; and (iv) types of web browsers used to access the Site (collectively “Traffic Data”). Traffic Data is anonymous information that does not personally identify you but is helpful for promotional purposes or for improving your experience on the Site.
(b) Cookies. From time to time, we may use the standard “cookies” feature of major browser applications that allows us to store a small piece of data on your computer about your visit to our Web site. We do not set any personally identifiable information in cookies, nor do we employ any data capture mechanisms on our website other than cookies. 3.1. What Does MiOra Do With Collected Information?
We use your Personal Information to maintain, develop, support, improve, or diagnose MiOra’s Site or Service. We use your Contact Data to send you information about MiOra or our programs, products, or services, or promotional material from some of our affiliates, or to contact you when necessary. We use your Financial Data to verify your qualifications for certain programs, products, or services and to bill you for programs, products and services. We use your Personal Information for adaptive learning or customized student learning purposes.
We also use or share your de-identified Personal Information in the following ways: (i) use of such information to improve educational programs, products, or services on the Site; (ii) use of such information to demonstrate the effectiveness of MiOra’s programs, products, or services, including in MiOra’s promotional materials; and (iii) sharing of such information with MiOra’s affiliates or sponsors for the development and improvement of educational sites, services, or applications.
(b) Anonymous Information. We use anonymous information to analyze our Site traffic, but we do not examine this information for individually identifying information. In addition, we may use anonymous IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer our site, or to display the content according to your preferences. Traffic and transaction information may also be shared with MiOra’s affiliates or sponsors on an aggregate and anonymous basis.
(e) Access to Information. We maintain a procedure in order to help you confirm that certain of your Personal Information remains correct and up-to-date. At any time, you may visit your personal profile at www.miora.org Through your personal profile you may: (a) review and update your Personal Information displayed; (b) choose whether or not you wish us to send you information about MiOra, or promotional material from some of our affiliates; and/or (c) choose whether or not you wish for us to share your Personal Information with third parties. We will also remove all information about you from our database at your request or if a school or district requests deletion of data under the control of the school or district.
(f) Sale of Information. In order to accommodate changes in our organization, we may participate in the purchase, merger, or other type of acquisition of an operator by another entity, provided that the operator or successor entity continues to be subject to the provisions of California’s Student Online Personal Information Protection Act with respect to previously acquired student information.
(g) Legitimate Research. We may also use Personal Information for legitimate research purposes: (i) as required by state or federal law and subject to the restrictions under applicable state and federal law or (ii) as allowed by state or federal law and under the direction of a school, school district, or state department of education, if no Personal Information is used for any purpose in furtherance of advertising or to amass a profile on the student for purposes other than school purposes pursuant to California’s Student Online Personal Information Protection Act.
MiOra implements and maintain reasonable security procedures and practices appropriate to the nature of your Personal Information, and protects that information from unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure. Your Personal Information is stored on secure servers that are not accessible by third parties. We provide you with the capability to transmit your Personal Information via secured and encrypted channels if you use a similarly equipped web browser.
Although we make good faith efforts to maintain the security of such Personal Information, we cannot guarantee that it will remain free from unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure. Further, while we work hard to ensure the integrity and security of our network and systems, we cannot guarantee that our security measures will prevent “hackers” or other unauthorized persons from illegally accessing or obtaining this information. Therefore, although we use industry standard practices to protect your privacy, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your Personal Information will always remain private.

The Site may include interactive forums such as message boards and chat rooms. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.

The Site may contain links to other websites. If you choose to visit other websites, we are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those other websites, and it is your responsibility to review the privacy policies at those websites to confirm that you understand and agree with their policies.
Third Party Login Functionality and Sharing. We may permit users with accounts on certain third party services, including but not limited to social networking, search, sharing, and other services delivered by third-parties, to bypass the standard registration process. If you connect through an authorized third party service, you will be able to use your third party login information to log in to your Site account or access the Site. We are not responsible for the sharing, posting, commenting, or other content and information gathering practices of any third party services that may be triggered by using these third party login services. Please review their terms of service and privacy policies carefully before using third party login functionality to access the Site.
By using any third party services to log in to your MiOra account or access the MiOra Site, you permit us to access, store and use all information related to your third party account that may be accessible to us through the third party service, including through its application programming interface (API), pursuant to this Policy.
