MiOra and STEM Academy at Hollywood, CA Organized a Stress and Time Management Event

MiOra educational nonprofit ( and STEM Academy invited Occupational Therapist (OT) Rashelle Nagata, who is doing her clinical doctorate at the University of Southern California (USC), to provide tips to the students on techniques to lower anxiety and better manage their time. The students complained about escalating stress over school work, grades, work experiences, extracurricular activities and relationships upon entering junior and senior year.   The interactive program was very well received. MiOra Mentor, Professor Chatterjee was in Hollywood

MiOra educational nonprofit ( organized a career event at the STEM Academy at Bernstein High School, Hollywood, California, together with the support of the Principal Mr. Paul Hirsch and the Lead Teacher, EL Coordinator & Bio-medical Instructor Ms. Esther Dabagyan. MiOra mentor Dr. Chatterjee, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Sanford School of Medicine, University of South Dakota, provided information on how to get into medical school and other healthcare careers to approximately 40 high school students. MiOra Mentor Raquel Vazquez PA-C Guiding Students

MiOra mentor, Certified Physician Assistant with Ear Nose Throat Specialization, Raquel Vasquez PA-C from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center visited Kid City and gave career guidance to promising high school students Diana Balbuena (junior) and Roxana Flores (senior) from Orthopaedic Medical Magnet HS. The students learned about the educational requirements, salary and the life style of physician assistants. Thank you Ms. Vasquez! Keep up the good work students!  Kid city is a community where kids and young adults develop leadership and agency skills, and intellectual curiosity, they are encouraged to be their best and pursue their dreams. MiOra ( welcomes Joshua Gidanian as the newest MiOra Data Manager! Joshua is passionate about being productive and helping people. His volunteer activities have ranged from building shelters for the homeless people in Portland, Oregon to supporting cancer patients in Los Angeles, California. Joshua is now putting that passion and energy into helping high school and college students reach their goals in STEM and healthcare careers. In addition to having an innate ability to build and fix, Joshua is a budding Microsoft Excel specialist. In the short time he has been with MiOra, Joshua demonstrated that he is self motivated and committed. Welcome to the MiOra team Joshua!

NEW MIORA MENTEE: Leslin Hernandez

MiOra ( welcomes Leslin Hernandez as a new mentee. MiOra connected Leslin with mentor Wendy Gerber at Immunization Coalition of Los Angeles County. Leslin is now a member at the Vaccine Confidence Committee and the Adolescent Vaccines Committee. She is actively involved in identifying resources for the providers and patients in English and Spanish while gaining real-world experience in public health, pediatrics and preventive medicine. The eldest of 3 daughters, Leslin is a first generation college attendee and an undergraduate at UCSD Pre-Med program. She is a member of the International Health Collective that offers free health services in Tijuana and a member of Chicanos/ Latinos for Community Medicine group that provides community service. On October 20, 2016 MiOra ( partnered with Kid City to organize a STEM and healthcare career event at their location in downtown Los Angeles. Kid City is a nonprofit community organization that aims to provide a safe and enriching after-school place for high school and college students from  Central and South Los Angeles areas. Most of Kid City students are first generation college attendees.  MiOra mentor Dr. Chris da Costa, President Dr. Equils and Bioengineering/Engineering and STEM Development Director Ella Uludag  shared their educational experiences, challenges and expertise with the students. MiOra ( President Dr. Ozlem Equils and MiOra mentor Dr. Alex Chen, VP of Quality and Safety @AltaMed (one of the largest FQHC’s in the nation) participated in a panel discussion organized by the University of Southern California (USC) Premedical Honor Society Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED).   Following the excellent presentations by Professor Dr. PH.
